French Camp, CA) – Health Plan of San Joaquin (HPSJ) has announced that Terry R. Cumpian has been promoted from HPSJ senior claims manager to claims department director. Cumpian, who joined HPSJ at the beginning of 2015, has extensive insurance claims experience ranging from billing, coding and adjustments, to physician office outreach and customer service. Prior to joining HPSJ, Cumpian was billing/client supervisor at EMMI, Inc. (Stockton), where she supervised the daily operations for two large multi-specialty physician surgical groups, and also worked closely with managed Medi-Cal plans, such as HPSJ (Medicaid in California is called Medi-Cal).

“The ability of a community-based plan such as HPSJ to process claims from throughout our provider network in a timely, accurate way is essential to delivering on our vision of continuously improving our community’s health,” said Cumpian. “To accomplish this, I take pride in leading cross-functional teams, and creating empowered workplaces, so we can all achieve success and provide the highest level of satisfaction, for both our providers and members.”

HPSJ Chief Financial Officer Michelle Tetreault added, “Terry arrived at HPSJ as a claims manager and immediately demonstrated the kind of technical know-how and personal leadership that has helped our claims team continue expanding HPSJ’s capacity to serve the fast-growing membership brought to us by the Affordable Care Act and expanded Medi-Cal.” She said, “Terry’s unique dual perspective, from inside of a health plan and from the inner workings of a very large medical practice, have proved invaluable.”

Cumpian is a local resident who graduated from Lincoln High School in Stockton. She remains active as a local volunteer, including: as a board member of the North West Trojans Football and Cheer, and the Lincoln Lightning Summer Swim Program, and as a member of the Mable Barron Parent Teacher School Association.
